Finding the right Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) is more than just picking a model from a catalog. It requires a comprehensive clinical understanding of your physical needs, daily environment, and long-term medical goals.
At MES Mobility, our certified Assistive Technology Professionals (ATPs) guide you through every step of the custom power wheelchair fitting process. We believe that a wheelchair should adapt to you—not the other way around. From the initial clinical interview to the final delivery and adjustment, we engineer mobility solutions that maximize independence, comfort, and safety.
The Complex Rehab Technology Difference
Standard power wheelchairs (often called "scooters" or "hoverarounds") are designed for basic mobility. Complex Rehab Technology (CRT), however, is medically necessary, highly configurable equipment designed for individuals with significant disabilities or progressive medical conditions.
Standard Mobility
- • Basic seating with minimal adjustability
- • Standard joystick controls only
- • Designed for short-term or intermittent use
- • Cannot accommodate progressive postural changes
Complex Rehab Technology (CRT)
- • Custom-molded seating and pressure mapping
- • Alternative drive controls (head array, sip-and-puff)
- • Power positioning (tilt, recline, seat elevation)
- • Highly adaptable to progressive medical conditions
Our Comprehensive ATP Evaluation Process
A successful custom wheelchair fitting is a multi-step clinical process. Our RESNA-certified ATPs work alongside your physical or occupational therapist to ensure every anatomical and functional requirement is met.
Step 1: Clinical Interview & Goal Setting
We begin by understanding your daily routine, medical history, and specific mobility challenges. What environments do you navigate? What are your functional goals?
Step 2: Physical & Postural Assessment
A hands-on clinical evaluation of your joint flexibility, muscle tone, balance, and skin integrity. We measure your exact dimensions to ensure the frame and seating system fit perfectly.
Step 3: Environmental Review
We assess where the equipment will be used. This includes evaluating home accessibility, door widths, vehicle transport options, and terrain.
Step 4: Equipment Trials & Simulation
Whenever possible, we simulate the recommended seating system and drive controls to ensure you can safely and comfortably operate the equipment before it is ordered.
